PAC next to the lead sellers
Other services sell you a name. PAC shows you the job.
Most services that promise contractors work are selling one thing: a customer's name, address and phone number. Here is how that compares with bidding on a reviewed job.
| Lead-selling services | Pick A Contractor | |
|---|---|---|
| What you pay for | A customer's name, address and phone number, sold to you as a "lead". | Seeing jobs costs nothing extra. Every open job in your areas is there to browse, with its photos, details and documents. |
| How the charge is set | By the type of job the customer says they want. A bigger job type costs more, before anyone has seen the work. | Published program prices you choose up front: $100 a month, $1,000 a year, or $0 for one bid a month. |
| When you pay | When the name reaches you, whether or not you ever get the job. | PAC's job fee applies only if you win the job. Bid with confidence. |
| Who else gets it | The same name is often sold to the first three or so contractors willing to pay for it. | Contractors who are truly interested in bidding, with no obligation. |
| What you receive | A phone number to chase, and a race to call first. | The whole job: photos, details and documents, plus measurements and sketches on jobs PAC measures. |
| Your first trip | Drive out, measure and sell at the kitchen table, often behind two other contractors. | Price the job from your desk. Once your bid is chosen, you meet the customer to verify the job and sign a contract. |
| How the job is won | By calling fastest and closing hardest. | On your price, your schedule, your ratings and your showcased work, side by side with the other bids. |
| Is the job real | Wrong numbers, people only curious, jobs already given away. You ask for a credit and wait. | PAC reviews every project before it opens for bids. |
| Beyond finding work | Finding work is the whole product. | Estimating, job costing, accounting and a private customer book that only you can see. The job pool is one feature of the software you run your business on. |

Where the work comes from
Homes, architects and commercial owners
Work comes from homeowners, architects, commercial owners, property managers and condo or HOA associations, by open bid or by invitation.
Open bids
Open jobs in your areas show up in your account. Bid on the ones that fit your trade.
Invitations to bid
Architects and owners often bid by invitation. PAC's office sets the invited list and sends the invitation to you.
Commercial projects
This is where the bigger tools earn their keep: schedule of values, pay applications, retainage and certified payroll.
How bidding works
From open job to signed contract
A job is posted and reviewed
A customer posts the project with photos, details, and any drawings and documents, and PAC reviews it before it opens for bids. Where PAC runs its layout service, a PAC rep measures, photographs and writes up the scope.
You bid from your desk
Open jobs in your areas, and the jobs you are invited to, show up in your account. Review the details, ask questions through the job's messages, and submit your price, start date and duration.
PAC reviews and sends your bid
Your local office checks each bid against the scope and sends the complete bids to the customer, organized side by side with your ratings and showcased work. On an open bid, your company name stays private until the customer chooses and PAC confirms the choice.
You win, you sign, you build
When you're chosen, PAC introduces you to the customer and your bid becomes a contract you can send for signature. Bigger projects can be awarded in parts, so you can win the portion that fits your trade.
From there, PAC's estimating and accounting tools help you run the job: job costing, invoicing, pay applications with retainage, lien waivers and more.
